Animals and Flowers with the Same Colors

Hello there! Today I’m participating in the Hero Arts 2018 Summer Catalog Release blog hop and sharing two cards – a floral card and a critter card – that both use the same colors.

My cards today feature the new Peonies stamp set, as well as Alpaca Stamp & Cut, and lots of quick ZIG coloring.

Video Tutorial

I filmed a video tutorial showing how to create this card from start to finish. Watch it below or on my Youtube channel.

If you liked this video, please give it a big thumbs up and share with a friend! Leave a comment too – I always love hearing from you!

Card Deets – ZIG Colored Peony

I was just lazily experimenting with colors when this card came about, and I love how it turned out! I started out by stamping the images, from Peonies and Artistic Peony, in Rose Madder on Bristol cardstock. Then I did some real simple coloring, using Cornflower Blue and Shadow Mauve for the petals, and a bit of Carmine Red and Light Carmine for the center of the flowers.

I stamped a sentiment, from the same Peonies stamp set, in Indigo, and then trimmed it out and adhered it to the card, along with a bit of vellum I had cut with pinking shears. A bit of Star Dust Stickles tops off the center of the flowers!

I mention in the video, but if you want to retain more of those pink lines without having to worry about coloring over (which I did when I made this card – told ya I was lazy), then you can first ink up your stamp in VersaMark, and then Rose Madder. Cover with some clear embossing powder – or, like I did in the video, clear sparkle embossing powder (because, you know, it’s sparkly!) – heat set, and then color away!

You could also try watercoloring, using Indigo watercolor ink.

Card Deets – ZIG Colored Llama

I really have a thing for Cornflower/Stonewash-esque colors lately. This next card, featuring the adorable new Alpaca Stamp & Cut, features some more of that yummy pink and cornflower combo.

For this card, I started out by blending a background of Cotton Candy and Pale Tomato. I actually already had this background leftover from a different card, but I do love having lots of different blended backgrounds on hand – could be the jumping point my next project!

After the ink was blended, I flicked some white spray on it, and let it dry. After drying, I cut the paper into a ribbon shape, and then sewed it down to the card. It’s not often I lug out the sewing machine, but this project really needed it.

Then I stamped the alpaca in black on Bristol cardstock, and colored her in with Pale PinkCornflower Blue and Shadow Mauve. For the body, I used Pale Gray around the edges, and then blended it out with water for a very soft gray look. Die cut with coordinating die, and adhere to card base.

Last, but not least, the sentiments! The main sentiment, from the Alpaca stamp set, was stamped in VersaMark on black cardstock and heat embossed with new, absolutely yummylicious sparkly silver embossing powder. After I trimmed out that sentiment and adhered it, I just had to add a speech bubble! So I stamped the cutey “hi” from Holiday Cheer (just shows you how you can use a Christmas stamp set year round!) in Cornflower, die-cut it, and adhered it to the card. Some gems finish off the card.
