No-line Watercolor Florals

Hey there!

I’ve actually made a card that wasn’t for work, so I wanted to share it with you! A co-worker moved departments, so I made this card for her, and tried to imitate one of her favorite carmakers, Debby Hughes. Something Debby Hughes is amazing at is no-line watercoloring, so I gave it a shot and had a lot of fun!

No-line Watercolor Florals

I stamped the Beautiful Day flowers in Sahara Sand (stamped off a few times) and watercolored them with Stampin’ Up! inks. I’d never really used SU! inks until I started working there, and one of my favorite things about them is using them to watercolor.

For the flowers, I used Lovely Lipstick and Poppy Parade. One thing I noticed is that I really had to more color around the edges of each petal/petal curls, otherwise it wouldn’t stand out very well. Probably an obvious detail, but it took me awhile to figure out why the petals weren’t distinguished enough from each other.

After the coloring the flowers, I felt pretty lazy about the leaves and little flower bunches, so I just quickly colored them with Coastal Cabana and Crushed Curry. I used some black sparkle embossing powder for the centers, and then die-cut the little circles with a die from Dino Dies.

The card base is simple Whisper White, and the panel is Fog, with some white acrylic paint I striped over it. It’s funny, I hardly ever use acrylic paint, but I loved how quickly and opaque it dried. Then I ran it through the sewing machine without thread, and adhered the flowers to it. I didn’t have the dies, so yes, I fussy-cut all those suckers.

I flicked Frost White shimmer paint on the card, and then topped it off with some clear drops and a white heat-embossed sentiment from  Peonies. I also brushed Wink of Stella over the flowers, but I think we all know how hard that is to capture on camera. 😉

Thanks for stopping in and God bless!
