Watercolor Hummingbird

Hello! Another month, another My Monthly Hero blog hop! Today I’m participating in the Hero Arts February 2018 My Monthly Hero Arts blog hop, using a beautiful hummingbird stamp set add-on.

I started by heat embossing the hummingbird, from the new Hummingbirds stamp set, with Detail Black embossing powder and then colored it using Gansai Tambi watercolors. I used colors 20, 32, 51, 53, 58, 31, and 43, and you can see how in the video below…

Or watch HERE on YouTube.

To set the stage for the hummingbird, I die cut a heart from cardstock to create an opening for a blended background. The background was blended with Dandelion and Soft Apricot. I hadn’t played with the Hero Arts dye inks for blending before this card, but they blend just as beautifully as the shadow inks! I sprayed some white ink on the background for a little extra interest.

The sentiment was also heat embossed with Black Detail powder, and then the card was topped off with some pearls.

For the side of the card, I heat embossed the Candy Stripe Bold Print in Black Detail, and cut a strip for the card. A great alternative to washi tape!

  1. This is absolutely beautiful Clare and your orange/yellow background is perfect for your focal images. Well done and TFS.

  2. This card is so sweet! Love how you blend those dye inks to create the heart and those little pearls that you added made such great details! It’s so interesting to see how you used the candy stripe bold print and some embossing powder to create an alternative to washi tape!

  3. Your card is such a change with the bright warm heart behind it. I like the addition of the black and white stripes to accent the little fellows wings. Beautiful design.
    Thank you for sharing! 🙂

  4. You chose some wonderful colors….and added them in just the right ways. I am trying to learn to watercolor, but am juuuuuust beginning.

  5. What a beautiful card. Your watercoloring is beautiful and I really appreciated seeing your design process. Thank you so much for sharing.

  6. Gorgeous!! Love the colours and how you placeď the hummingbird and flower over the heart window. The blending of colour with the white splatters behind the heart window is beautiful and adds even more dimension. Love it!
